I accidentally deleted your message about your try to reinstall the software - sure, give it a try and if you need more help just let me know.

If possible, try it on another system (or for example if you have a laptop) that may have different settings or different programs installed - I think that this is not due to the server but to the programs installed on the system that may block Easy Post. Of course it can be a bug in our software that may manifest on your computer specifically but this is not likely as you said it cannot neither post, neither download a list (in other words it cannot connect to server, meaning it is being blocked from the system or a software on the system).

Some bugs have been fixed related to multipart detection and decoding that we discovered just after the release but the fix is not perfect so a minor update will follow soon as well - stay tuned.

We recommend uninstalling everything completely and then reinstalling as usual.

I tried to reproduce this on my own copy of Windows Vista but I cannot reproduce it - it works properly over here (downloads list of newsgroups and posts properly). I must note that I'm doing all the testing on clean-installed Windows Vista without any additional programs added (this is how we do all of our testing to avoid conflicts with any additional programs). Furthermore, it works well on Windows XP too.

If it connects on port 119 then this is most probably standard non-SSL connection (very few servers have SSL on port 119, usually port 563 is used for SSL - note that Easy Post 2.5 does not support SSL yet because it is quite rare for the news servers but regardless of that, next version will).

I find it strange that Easy Post won't work while all other programs work - it doesn't use any particular unusual command that other programs don't use - in fact if Outlook Express or Windows Mail can connect then Easy Post should do it as well as it uses nearly identical commands as these except it uses yEnc as posting encoding.

Maybe there is still something installed on your computer that blocks this? Common programs that can block other programs are antivirus sofware, antispyware software, privacy protection software and firewalls.

Maybe it is the news server you use? Can you try with some other news server?

The most obvious thing here that could be responsible for this is usually a software firewall (the one you may have installed on your computer). Perhaps a firewall is blocking Easy Post and it cannot connect to the Internet and therefore your news server? I will also test Easy Post on Vista Ultimate and follow up this post, in the meantime, you can try to check if a firewall is blocking it. Disable firewall for a short time just for the purpose of test or try to tweak its options to allow Easy Post. If you disable it, remember to enable it back afterwards, disabling it for a short time won't do any harm but is the best and fastest way to test if it causes problems.

Errors are logged only if error occurs.

Also does your server require SSL connection or is it a regular port 119 connection? Have you typed in your username/password correctly if the server requires authentication?

yDecode General Discussion / yDecode 1.60 released (with SSL support)

yDecode 1.60 is released!

Important requirement: Demo version 1.51 download has been updated to include SSL libraries required for SSL support. If you want to upgrade you need to uninstall yDecode, download new version of 1.51 demo and install it and then apply 1.60 full version on top of it. Full version alone does not include required libraries so this procedure is mandatory.

New version is also compiled in a new compiler so there are some slightly visible changes in how yDecode operates but nothing critical. We've been testing it for over a month and we conclude that it works stable now. But if you discover something that doesn't work as expected, please let us know so we can fix it.

There is also a small, but important bug fix in the dump option which used to create files that could be corrupted (unreadable). This was present in 1.51 but 1.60 fixes this issue so if you use dump option upgrade is required!

Soon, we plan also some other updates (to the web site) which of course will be announced here.

A quick note about the configuration when using SSL:

- SSL support in your news reader must be disabled
- SSL support in yDecode must be enabled (if your server requires it)
- Port setting in yDecode must be 563 (in most cases) for most SSL enabled servers

Enabling SSL is not needed anymore in your news reader because yDecode now handles that - in fact - having it enabled in both programs (your news reader and yDecode) won't work!
Also remember to press Test Config button to see if the configuration is set as it should be.

While SSL is not required for many server, there are some that require this - one example is server.

Update 04-Dec-2007: Full version 1.60 download has been updated with a small bug fix (some list boxes were stretched) so if you downloaded it already, you can download it again now to fix those issues.

Here is a quick tutorial how to recognize different files that you may find on the Usenet and not to misplace them for yEnc.

First of all, yEnc is an encoding and not a file format. Once it is decoded it can store different file formats.

File format on the other hand is a specific format of a certain file that can be recognized by specific programs.

For example if it is an image file like JPEG or GIF - this can be recognized by many image viewers including the ones integrated in the Windows. Also news readers may recognize them as well and display them instantly in the browser window. However if it is a file format that Outlook Express or Windows Mail (or any different news reader) cannot recognize, then it will usually be displayed as a "paperclip attachment".

With all this in mind here are some common file formats you can find on the newsgroups.

yEnc, MIME, UU - encoding formats

yEnc is not a file but an encoding format. Encoding means that a file that is stored within is converted from one format (8-bit binary) to another (yEnc). yEnc can store any file format inside but it is not a file format itself but an encoding format. Other common examples of encoding formats on the Usenet are MIME and UU.

Following are various file formats that can be stored in yEnc (or MIME and UU) encoding.

JPEG, JPG, GIF, PNG, TIF, BMP - image files

Most of these formats will be recognized directly by your news reader. Once they are decoded from yEnc they will be displayed directly in the browser window. Then you may choose if you want to save them or to do whatever you wish with them. Also they will be available as paperclip attachment for saving.

AVI, WMV, MPG, MPEG, QT, MOV, RM, MP4, M4V - video files

Those are all video formats - Quicktime, Real Media, Windows Media Video etc. You need appropriate player to play these. Many (but not all) of the formats can be handled by Windows Media Player that comes with the Windows XP and Windows Vista. Some of these like Real Media and Quicktime may require specialized players. Others like AVI may not be playable in video player simply because you lack codec to view them. Codec is like a driver but for video format - it is required to play the file and must be installed on the system.

Some of the common codecs used are DIVX and XVID. You need to install those on your system before your video player may recognize those formats. Once installed, many players (and even Windows Media Player) will be able to recognize and play the video file correctly.

Also look for codec packs. There are several one of the well know ones is K-Lite codec pack. Once you install it - you will be able to play a wide variety of formats that AVI files can be encoded to. Also closely associated with K-Lite codec pack are Quicktime and Real alternative. Those are replacement codecs for QT and RM files which don't require you to have Apple or Real player but you may use any player you like because standalone players are compatible with all codecs that are installed on the system. There is also a good and very easy to use player called Windows Media Player Classic - comes with K-lite codec pack. Much easier to use than IMHO bloated Windows Media Player. Another good alternative is VideoLAN player which comes with a number of built-in video codecs.

Of course you need to find a player that suits your needs but is also compatible with all the common video formats out there.

There is no need for many codecs on the system. Most common ones are DIVX (AVI), XVID (also AVI), QT and RM. Others are just bonuses but usually rare.

MP3, WMA, RA, MPA - audio files

Audio formats contain music, speech or various audio data. Meda Player Classic can play some of these formats. WMA requires Windows Media Player. There are some players that handle multiple formats. MP3 and WMA are the most common ones and both can be played in WinAmp.

ZIP, RAR, ARJ, ACE, 7Z, TAR, TGZ, LHA, R00, R01, R02..., 001, 002, 003... - archive files

The most common archive formats you will find are ZIP and RAR. You may find some of the other ones here and there but with those 2 you covered most of the ground. To unpack them you need a program that handles that archive format. Many tools handle multiple archive formats. Look for these tools on our links page.

Archives contain one or several files inside. They are called archives because they are packed and contain different file types inside - it can be programs, pictures, videos or any other.

PAR, PAR2 - parity files

Simply put, these files are used to recover missing parts of multipart posts. They have no purpose by themselves and you cannot read them with some reader program. They are only useful if you miss some part of some very important multipart post that you don't want to miss. In most cases you will not need PAR files at all and you can ignore them but in those few cases where they are important please familiarize yourself by reading the articles section - "what are PAR files" article.

Other - misc

We get a lot of questions like that yEnc file is not decoded when in fact it is - common reason can be multiparts in combination with missing data.

How do you recognize this?

If you see a post starting with =ybegin - those are yEnc encoded files. They haven't been decoded from yEnc. You need yDecode to do this if you want to view them.

An example (beginning) of non-decoded yEnc formatted message:

=ybegin part=4 line=128 size=346200990 name=My Video.avi
=ypart begin=1536001 end=2048000
M$9@9I"###37@P:-$@C@O_83 SVSGB+H)@C(/3U.T=F:[KA#X_[P.^N#:%:X"....

An example (beginning) of decoded yEnc formatted message (but missing some previous part or for some reason not being displayed as "attachment"):

M$9@9I"###37@P:-$@C@O_83 SVSGB+H)@C(/3U.T=F:[KA#X_[P.^N#:%:X"....

Notice the difference? The first example begins with =ybegin, clearly indicating it is still in yEnc format. The other one starts right away but is obviously missing a part of data because it starts like that. This could be a part of a multipart file not properly decoded.

If they start with various data but there is no =ybegin in the first line, they are decoded but they miss some essential part like previous part. They could be for example a part of multipart data. I recommend you read also multipart tutorial (also here on forum) to understand how to recognize multiparts and common problems with them (starting with server, missing parts, parts not downloaded by you etc.)

For details how to use specific options please consult help files but here is a brief tutorial of what is important when using multiparts. Please note that the multipart option is limited to non-yEnc files in the demo and also time-limited (no limitations at all in full version). Please follow the steps carefully. They are explained in detail with the reasons why are they requred - here but are very quick to follow and require just a few seconds to actually do.

NOTE: Initially this was a reply, but it grew to a small tutorial and it is being updated all the time. When it becomes too long we'll strip it into several sections. It may be a bit longer but it contains so much useful info so it is worth your attention if you use multiparts. You will learn a lot of useful things, we promise!


Movies and other large files on the newsgroups are split for various technical reasons into so called "multipart" posts. This is when first post contains only few Kb, next post another few Kb and so on until the last post. Let's say that the multipart file of 5 Mb has been split into 10 files that would make a post with 10 parts, 500 Kb each. This is a usual way of posting to the Usenet. The parts would be marked with counters like (01/10), (02/10), (03/10)... until (10/10) indicating which part exactly you're downloading. These counters are in the subject like of each part. There can be more counters and in that case other can represent file counters if more than one file was posted. In that case the counter might look like ... [1/4] ... (3/10) which would indicate roughly file 1 of 4 and part 3 of 10.

Please note that there are no standards regarding how to mark the file counters so there is some guesswork involved here but generally you'll be able to find the part 1 of some file relatively easy and this is all that is required for yDecode multipart function to work.

To view these, you need to "join" posts into a single file - joining each 500 Kb with the previous one etc. until you get original 5 Mb file. Of course, the file can be larger or smaller, this is just an example.

yDecode can help with this because it has automatic multipart decoder (it automatically joins the posts) but you need to learn first how to use it and there are some prerequisites for it to function effectively (for various technical reasons).


You can recognize if a file is posted in multipart encoding or not by looking at its subject in most cases. Here are a few examples:

Non-multipart, JPEG image (subject line):
My picture set - Picture001.jpg

You should get single file called Picture001.jpg out of this one. This one is very easy and straightforward.

Multipart made out of 2 parts, JPEG image (two subject lines, two messages that need to be joined into one):
My picture set - Picture001.jpg (1/2)
My picture set - Picture001.jpg (2/2)

You should get a single file called Picture001.jpg which is posted out of two parts (1/2) and (2/2). As you can see (1/2) means part 1 of 2, and (2/2) means part 2 of 2. Usually these counters are in round brackets just like the above example.

3 different files, each one is multipart made out of 2 parts:
My programs [1 of 3] - Somefile.exe (1/2)
My programs [1 of 3] - Somefile.exe (2/2)
My programs [2 of 3] - SomeOtherFile.exe (1/2)
My programs [2 of 3] - SomeOtherFile.exe (2/2)
My programs [3 of 3] - Thirdfile.exe (1/2)

A variation on the above topic - also 3 different files, just a bit different numbering:
My programs [1/3] - Somefile.exe (1/2)
My programs [1/3] - Somefile.exe (2/2)
My programs [2/3] - SomeOtherFile.exe (1/2)
My programs [2/3] - SomeOtherFile.exe (2/2)
My programs [3/3] - Thirdfile.exe (1/2)
My programs [3/3] - Thirdfile.exe (2/2)

Note: square brackets usually indicate file X out Y and round brackets indicate part X out Y. This is a usual pattern for many posts on the Usenet. There is however an exception to that as well:
My programs - Somefile.exe [1/2]
My programs - Somefile.exe [2/2]

As you can see above - that example uses square brackets for counter. yDecode needs to guess from the above examples which is multipart and which one isn't so it is not perfect - but it works well as we've analyzed hundreds of posts and found some patterns that are implemented in yDecode recognition mechanism to make it as much reliable as possible.

You will get 3 files - Somefile.exe, SomeOtherFile.exe and Thirdfile.exe, each of them is made up of 2 parts.

Of course in real-life examples, the multiparts usually consist of tens, hundreds or even thousands of parts but you will be able to recognize the above pattern easily.


An example (beginning text) of non-decoded yEnc formatted message:

=ybegin part=4 line=128 size=346200990 name=My Video.avi
=ypart begin=1536001 end=2048000
M$9@9I"###37@P:-$@C@O_83 SVSGB+H)@C(/3U.T=F:[KA#X_[P.^N#:%:X"....

If you get something like the above - the yEnc decoder is not working or you have incorrectly set the configuration of your news reader and/or yDecode. You have to fix the configuration. The presence of =ybegin means the message hasn't been decoded.

An example (beginning text) of decoded yEnc formatted message (but missing some previous part or for some reason not being displayed as "attachment"):

MFMQUU=BMLXR-4\= PC6B*U5NK#8,JS]1-8!8S&L;V-<0>#X9Z#,YS?Y6MJ6M........

If you get something like this - that is decoded message (yEnc decoder is working and is configured well). The absence of =ybegin means the message has been decoded.

Why then if it has been decoded you still may see the above symbols?

a) yDecode is not set to automatically decode multipart messages (enable "get multipart as single" option)
b) yDecode is set to decode multipart messages but it you haven't retrieved enough headers from server (this is the most common reason)
c) Your server simply lacks the required headers and no matter how many of them you download some are missing and this is incomplete post that cannot be joined. Upgrading to better server may help (look at our links page)



Enable yDecode multipart option (check get multiparts as single in attachments tab). Do this before you want to use multiparts option. This is required first because yDecode needs to cache the data about multiparts which it recognizes when it downloads them. You can also choose how multipart option will behave if it considers the multipart to be incomplete. To learn more about this option please read the help file here:


Now you need to make sure that you re-download the headers list (or the list of subjects if you will). This is required only the first time or when you want to begin using multiparts option. It is also required if you disabled the option and used this group for a while. Re-downloading the headers is required because yDecode needs to cache them and analyze them for multiparts. To do so - clear the cache of Outlook Express (look at troubleshooting to learn how: Once you do this Outlook Express will be forced to re-download the list. All this is not required if you're loading a new group. Also it is not required in the future, because yDecode automatically handles all new incoming headers and automatically maintains its own cache.

Clearing the cache is essential so that the messages are re-downloaded through yDecode but only after the multipart option is enabled. If the multipart option was not enabled before, then yDecode didn't create its internal cache to recognize which posts are multiparts and which are not. So do this step the second after you enable the multiparts option as explained above.

Note: if you use some other newsreader except Outlook Express or Windows Mail which is very similar - you will need to find the appropriate option to re-download the list yourself but basically the procedure is the same. Most newsreaders probably cache the headers internally - therefore clearing the cache and re-downloading the list is essential.


Now, make sure you download as much headers as possible. Why is this required? Simply because the more of headers (or subject) you get, the more of them yDecode will analyze and recognize as multiparts or not.

Outlook Express and Windows Mail download only 300 headers every time you enter a group. This is usually not enough. You can increase this limit up to 1000. This means that each time you enter a group it will download additional 300 headers (or subjects). Or 1000 if you changed this number. But if you press an icon on the top bar marked Headers it will download additional 300 (or 1000) headers. Pressing this button a few times you will get a lot of headers. When you got them enough you may proceed. Unchecking this option will download all headers. This may be unpractical for groups containing many thousands of posts and headers icon retrieves only the latest ones first and the older ones on each sequential click so depending on your server and usage habits you will want to decide how you will use this - either by clicking Headers icon several times or by unchecking it to retrieve all headers.

Look at: to learn more about how to tweak this option in Outlook Express and Windows Mail.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Sometimes it is better to uncheck the box to retrieve all headers but on some groups you can have millions of headers and that will seriously slow down your computer and your news reader. If that is the case, better increase the limit to 1000 (or some other reasonable number). Pressing Headers button in Outlook Express or Windows Maill will then get previous 1000 headers each time you press it. Usually, pressing the button a few times will retrieve enough headers for a few days - take a look at the earliest dates. To make sure that you have enough headers - use this simple tip:

If you want to download a message for example dated 5th Dec. - make sure that all the headers from 5th Dec. and also get all the headers from 4th Dec. as well. The idea is if you have at least a few headers from December, 4th - then all of the 5th have been retrieved as well and that you got all the required headers for 5th of December. Click Headers button enough times until you get all headers for a particular date. Then take a look at the list of subjects (headers) and see if the messages wrap from 5th to 4th - if they do - you're good to go with downloading a message from 5th of December.

Also, you can use the trick to "test" the header count with yDecode like this:

a) set incomplete multipart option to "do not download"
b) click "headers" button a few times
c) click on a desired message and avoid part #1 (001/123 or similar). Click on part 2,3 or any except part 1.
d) take a look what yDecode will report - there are 2 possible messages - "click on part #1 to download multipart" message and "multipart not downloaded" message
e) message #1 means: you have enough headers, yDecode got them all, recognized them and is good to go - click on part #1 to download message
f) message #2 means: there are not enough headers (click "headers" button a few more times), yDecode didn't got them or they are simply missing from server.
g) you need to avoid clicking on part #1 - until you get the #1 message when clicking on any part except #1 (2,3,4 etc...)

Why this works? Each time you click on a message - yDecode retests if it has got enough headers. Once it has enough - it will change the message it displays. So you can use this behavior to test if you got enough headers as well.


Having done all this now try to click on part 1 (e.g. 01/34 or 001/245) of the large file (like movie, mp3 or whatever). If the rest is available yDecode will be able to figure out this and download entire sequence automatically. If this is a large picture (usually split only in 2 parts) it will be displayed as normal picture in Outlook Express. If this is an MP3 file or something else, it will be displayed as paperclip attachment. If you click this attachment you can see how large it is - if it is larger than 500 Kb (from above example) then the download went fine and you can save this file and use it.


  • If you miss some of the parts on the server or if you didn't download them, yDecode won't be able to recognize the multipart. For this reason it is essential that you download entire header set available on the server (or press Headers button on the top enough times to do this).
  • If you see the gaps (like missing parts) in the list they may be caused by you not downloading enough headers or by your server not having these headers at all. You may wait for a day if the server may get additional missing headers - if they are still being posted. If it doesn't get it - it may be possible that your server doesn't carry enough groups or posts (in server terminology this is also called completion rate and measured in percentage - e.g. 99% completion means server carries 99% of posts posted everywhere in the world). If that is the case and you've done everything you can and there are still gaps in the sequence numbering you can only try to look for better server - we have some recommendations here: - top ones are better ones we recommend.
  • To save disk space, yDecode holds the list of cached headers for 3 days after they are downloaded. Make sure you download posts you want immediately. You may download them later but if the cache is deleted you'll have to re-download the list from the server again.
  • It may be possible that you've done everything you can - you have good server that stores a lot of messages, you downloaded all available headers, you wait for a day or two if you tried to download the post while it was being posted but still there are gaps and the post is incomplete. It may be possible that this happened during posting and that the problem is with a person that posted the original message. Nothing you can do in this case - the best is to move on with another message. These cases are rare though.


There are few bugs in Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird you should know about and which you can override using some yDecode options. The most significant one, related to multiparts is the behavior of all of these programs when saving very large attachments.

Typically if you download large attachment (300 or more megabytes) you won't be able to save it in Outlook Express (it will print out an out-of-memory error). Windows Mail may behave similarly but we have to test this out more. With Mozilla Thunderbird, it will not print out any error message but it will only detect and save the first part of the multipart (like, first 500 kB or so and not the entire file).

As most of the large files are encoded using the yEnc encoding - you can use yDecode to easily override these problems - simply enable the "Dump yEnc attachments to file". After that, download multipart normally and while it is being downloaded, yDecode will automatically save the file to the folder of your choice. Remember to occasionally clean up this folder from files you don't need, or move them to another folder. When a download completes, view the file from that folder directly. Don't do it before the download ends because the file won't be complete!


*** How to learn if multipart is complete without counting all the parts manually

Click on part #2, #3 or any other than #1. Clicking on part #1 will download entire sequence but you won't be able to do this twice if you miss some headers (see problems above).

If yDecode reports something like "this is a part of multipart click on part 1" then it recognized it and clicking on part #1 will download entire post. If something else happens (different message - depending on state of the option if multipart is incomplete in attachments) this may mean you didn't download enough headers or headers are missing from the server in which case you cannot do much but find better server which holds more posts and has better completion rate or skip to another post.

Let's say you clicked on part #2 and you have if multipart is incomplete option set to "do not download". yDecode will report that it cannot download this message as the number of parts didn't match the proposed number of parts in the subject. You can now press headers icon several times to retrieve a few thousands of headers more. This will make sure that they all get through. Now try to click on part #3. Let's say it reports now that this is a part of multipart and you need to click on part 1 to download entire post. This means that now you've got all the parts and you can safely click on part 1 and yDecode will do the rest of the job. Many times you will not have to use this trick as all of the posts will already be there, but it could be a good habit to use it to test the multipart before you start downloading it. You can click on parts all the way down to the last part to test the multipart as long as it is not part #1 which will download entire post.

*** How download in the "background" in OE or Windows Mail

When using Outlook Express you will often want to browse other news posts while the large message is being downloaded. If you use only browser window then of course if you move away from the multipart message being downloaded at the moment which will stop the download. To avoid this - simply double-click the part #001 of the message. This will open it in a new window. Now, when the message downloads in the new window you can click back on Outlook Express or Windows Mail and browse other groups. Have in mind that this will require 2 connections on yDecode and that browsing will now be slower. We don't recommend you using background transfers like this on more than one large file even though it might work properly.

yDecode General Discussion / Easy Post v2.50 released

Easy Post v2.50 has been released and you can get it from the download page.

This release mainly covers previously open issues with Windows Vista and some visual improvements but there are also some fixes that are not so easily noticed. If you discover some bugs or have some questions, just let us know!

List of changes follows:

Easy Post 2.5:

- Fixed compatibility issues with Windows Vista - configuration and cache files and registry entries are now saved to correct locations

- Default values for account settings now also work with Windows Mail

- Fixed a problem with file drag&drop which sometimes didn't work

- Changed ETA time display format from MMM:SS to HH:MM:SS

- Added keyboard shortcuts: CTRL+A selects all the files in the list, DEL removes them from the list

- Added progress indicator in taskbar button so you can minimize the window and still see the progress

- Added icons for buttons in the main window (to make it look better)

If it is already on the page then I suppose it is. I just picked this info from their site - and yes, Outlook Express has limitation of only 255 files for its multipart joiner, tried this myself. yDecode has no such limitation in its own multipart decoder. Maybe this has been fixed in Windows Mail (I really don't think they will be developing Outlook Express anymore because that's its successor) - I'd have to check this out but like I said if you use yDecode for multiparts handling (which is also way easier) this limitation does not matter.

What exactly are you trying to do when you get this error? Do you try to combine multiparts as the error code suggests?

yDecode 1.51 is available for download for both demo and registered version.

Some minor bugs have been fixed. Next version will have new features.


yDecode 1.51:

- fixed a problem with the uninstaller when returning account settings to normal
- Test Config now starts even if the NNTP server name field is empty (but it can only test news accounts in that case)

Minor update - 02-Aug-2007

Version 1.51 demo is re-released (version number is the same, only the binary exe differs) with updated uninstaller which is now capable of removing yDecode cache files on Windows Vista. Except this, the functionality on other versions of Windows and the main program file are unaffected therefore the version number remains the same.

Update: This issue has been fixed in yDecode 1.51 which is released now so this workaround is no longer necessary.

Looks like we have a small problem with the uninstaller that affects yDecode version 1.50.

If you turn on the option start minimized and try to uninstall the software it will "freeze" in the uninstaller.

The problem is minor and the fix is easy - when the uninstall reaches the "freeze" point - just look in the system tray (area near the computer clock) and look for yDecode icon. Then either click on it with left mouse button (yDecode will then exit and uninstaller will continue) or right click on it and select option Exit from the context menu - the same thing will happen as with the left mouse button click.

yDecode has an option to return settings of Outlook Express and Windows Mail to normal during the uninstaller and normally it exits automatically when it does this but apparently this does not occur when the start minimized option is enabled. This normally goes without notice because it returns the settings and exits immediately but in this case it can stop and wait for manual user input.

Of course, we'll release a quick fix that resolves this issue very soon.

Update: I just checked and looks like you logged in to download full version - let us know if you have any future questions.

We're trying to reach you by email and we sent at least 7 emails from different email accounts by now, but you're not receiving them or the emails are being filtered by your spam-filter software. Also the password recovery emails were also sent but obviously you didn't receive them either. They all were filtered out incorrectly as spam and probably ended up in your spam inbox.

Please make sure you check your spam inbox (this is also written in the first sentence of the order page and the email you did receive from Plimus as you quoted from it). I also sent you a personal message on the forum - please check it.

If you don't understand something just follow up on this message just don't post any personal details on the forum except in personal messages.

A related note to everybody else reading this:

  • Please leave additional (alternative) email while ordering - the box is not there for no reason and we always use it if we see a user does not log in to dowload full version for too long. We reply within 24-48 hours (in most times in much less, but never more) so if no email from us perhaps it is time to suspect your spam filtering software. Do not leave the same email in the alterative email box - that makes no sense.
  • Please do read the instructions (we did outline it in red color) on the last order page.
  • Please use this forum to contact us whenever you have problems with email delivery (do not post any private details on public forum - use private messages on the forum). There hasn't been a single email we haven't answered so far! We usually bend over our back to get the email delivered but in the variety of spam-filters we cannot get past each and every one of them - therefore alternative email address and the forum.
  • We do not know if the email has been delivered to you or filtered by spam-filter - we only know if there has been an error in delivery (such as invalid email address). Ensuring that you have no filtering for our emails (adding our email address to whitelist for example) or checking your spam inbox is the best way you ensure your email delivery. The same also goes for user support questions.

yDecode General Discussion / Re: An UnKnown Error Has Occurred

This error is probably not due to yDecode - even though there are limitations in the demo it should not produce "unknown error" - this error is a result of something Outlook Express did on its own. The most common error associated with yDecode is "server cannot be found" usually produced when you don't run yDecode but try to open newsgroups (this is simply how yDecode operates) but obviously you have yDecode up and running correctly and configured well.

As the information on Microsoft site suggests:

800c013f error could happen due to a limitation of Outlook Express having a limit of not being able to join more than 255 parts of a multipart post. That said, you may also want to know that yDecode can decode multiparts automatically - if you enable multipart decoder it will automatically scan posts you download for multiparts - detect if one of them is a multipart and finally when you click on part #1 it will download entire post as a sequence automatically joining parts into a single post. Of course, yDecode itself doesn't have any limit on how many multiparts a post consists of. It may easily join 10 or 1000 headers into a single post all automatically.

yDecode works with ANY newsreader - it only supports automatic configuration for most popular newsreaders such as Outlook Express and Windows Mail but manually you can configure it for any newsreader. To verify if you need yDecode - check if you can actually read yEnc posts - do you see scrambled content or decoded picture (the best is to test with pictures)? If you see scrambled content your newsreader most probably doesn't support yEnc - therefore you need a decoder.

Note that yDecode is not only yEnc decoder. It is also multipart auto-joiner, it also saves attachments into a folder of your choice etc. so only having yEnc in a newsreader still may not mean that you don't want to use yDecode as it can do additionally simplify newsgroup browsing through its features.

yDecode General Discussion / Easy Post 2.0 released

Easy Post 2.0 has been released and is available for download at the download page.

The most important thing about this release is that the communication functions have been rewritten from scratch. We received some complaints about its instability and now this should be solved. It will be also much more comfortable to use due to new functions we added. You will also be seeing another release of Easy Post in the near future that will address few more things regarding Windows Vista (and Windows Mail as well) and will also include some new functions, but more on that later.

List of changes follows:

Easy Post 2.0:

- The communication functions have been rewritten from scratch. Older and unstable functions were replaced by well tested and stable ones from yDecode software

- Updated and standardized format of the subject compliant to the most common subject formats used on the Usenet (includes counter of files and parts, descriptive subject, filename, etc.)

- Fixed incorrect handling of post-subject counters where the leading zeroes were incorrectly handled and sometimes omitted

- Speed up of newsgroups selection list box display - now it can handle millions of entries easily

- Typing a newsgroup filter manually is much more responsive now

- Added automatic check for new groups and group counter while downloading new list

- Added informative "Post Description" post which tells the viewer about the post size, number of files posted and similar statistics including the user defined description text

- Fixed a bug that caused duplicated entries in the newsgroups list

- Copying of default Outlook Express settings is modified not to copy the default split size (which is usually set to only 60 kB)

- Split size is now 500 kB by default (can be modified)

- Added magnetic border

- Fixed other bugs
